Amid Protests, Titagarh BJP Leader's Murder Case Given to WB CID

Kolkata: Amidst angry protests by West Bengal BJP activists, investigation into the Manish Shukla murder case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday, police sources said.

A team of CID officials visited the site where Shukla was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants on Sunday night on BT Road, barely a few metres from the area police station. Police said Shukla was shot multiple times in the back and upper torso.

Meanwhile, the BJP workers on Monday set up road blockades in various parts of West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district as part of a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Barrackpore to protest against the murder of their party leader.

Irate party activists also burnt tyres to block major road stretches such as Barrackpore-Barasat Road and Kalyani Expressway, virtually bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

A team of senior BJP leaders led by party's newly-appointed National Vice-President Mukul Roy and National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya went to Titagarh to meet the bereaved family.

"It is extremely shameful that the ruling Trinamool Congress has now started such politics of violence. We demand a CBI inquiry into the matter," Vijayvargiya told media persons.

BJP MP from Barrackpore Arjun Singh said that sophisticated weapons were used in killing Shukla. He held the state's ruling dispensation responsible for the murder.

However, senior Trinamool Congress leader Nirmal Ghosh said the incident was a result of "BJP infighting" and all allegations against the Trinamool Congress were baseless.
