Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, said on Thursday that the Senate investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, and the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings “appears political” in nature.

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., began probing Burisma last November, and has called for a vote next week on a subpoena for testimony from former Ukrainian embassy official Andrii Telizhenko, who was a consultant for the firm that Burisma hired when facing accusations of corruption, according to CNN.

Romney, who sits on the panel, questioned whether the investigation was worth the Senate’s time.

“There's no question but that the appearance of looking into Burisma and Hunter Biden appears political, and I think people are tired of these kind of political investigations,” Romney told reporters, according to CNN’s Manu Raju.

“I would hope that there’s something of significance that needs to be evaluated that would be done perhaps the FBI or some other agency, although it’s not as political as perhaps a committee of our body,” he added, according to National Review. “We also have a lot of work to do on matters that are not related to Burisma. We probably ought to focus on those things.”
