Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., blasted Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for warning that Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh would “pay the price” for decisions relating to abortion cases.
McConnell’s comments came Thursday in the floor of the Senate. Fox News posted a video of his remarks. A day earlier, Schumer had assailed President Donald Trump’s two Supreme Court appointees, suggesting they “won’t know what hit” them if they ruled in favor of abortion restrictions.
“There is nothing to call this except a threat,” McConnell said.
After McConnell spoke, Schumer took the floor, according to Fox News. He claimed McConnell made a “glaring omission” by failing to note that Schumer was speaking regarding a Supreme Court case that could impact women’s ability to get an abortion.
"Now I should not have used the words I used," Schumer said. "They didn't come out the way I intended to."
He maintained he was not threatening either Gorsuch or Kavanaugh.
"I'm from Brooklyn. We speak in strong language," he said.
But McConnell noted: “At the very best his comments were astonishingly reckless and extremely irresponsible.”
