President Donald Trump said Thursday he was "all set" to face Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., in the election — until Super Tuesday gave an unexpected boost to former Vice President Joe Biden.
In a Fox News Town Hall in Scranton, Pennsylvania — a once-solid blue state Trump won in 2016 — Trump predicted it will be tough for Sanders to recover.
"I was all set for Bernie because I thought it was going to happen," Trump said. "We get ready for things, mentally I'm all set for Bernie, Communist. I had everything down. I was all set and then we have this crazy thing that happened on Tuesday."
"I'm ready for Bernie, and now it's two very different people," he added. "I think I'm a certain way, Bernie would be tougher because he's got a base. It's a smaller base than my base.
"I don't think I'm running against Bernie," Trump added. "I think it's going to be very hard for him to come back."
Trump said he thinks Biden was "damaged" – by Trump's impeachment by the House.
"I think Biden has been damaged," Trump said, adding, "they aimed at Trump and they took Biden down."
He also chided Biden for his gaffe-prone performances in the debates and on the campaign trail.
"He thought [Super Tuesday] was Thursday – but he also said 150 million people were killed with guns, and he was running for the United States Senate," Trump said, adding: "There's something going on there."
He also took a swipe at Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., who quit the Democratic primary race earlier Thursday, saying she did fellow progressive Sanders "no favors."
"That was not a good friendship" between her and Sanders, Trump said. "We started to see that during the debates.
"She didn't even have to endorse him," he added. "If she just dropped out of the race without an endorsement, he would've won a tremendous number of states that he lost."
