April 20: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday stayed the encroachment demolition drive on the properties of the accused in the Jehangirpuri Hanuman Jayanti procession attack. The court has agreed to hear the case on Thursday and maintained status quo.
Advocate Dushyant Dave and from petitioner's side, said the demolition drive in riot-hit Jahangirpuri is completely illegal and no notice was given to anyone.
Although the demolition drive is still underway. The bulldozers continue to raze shops and other structures. Civic officials said that they are yet to receive the order and will act accordingly once they get it.
"We haven't received the Supreme Court order's copy yet. The demolition is underway." North MCD Commissioner said.
"Let the civic agency take a decision. We're here to provide support & protection to the civic agency." said Special Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak.
The Delhi police have so far arrested 25 rioters in the case including the main accused. The widespread clashes left several policemen and civilians injured.
The Delhi police have invoked NSA on 5 accused in the case. The accused have been identified as Ansar, Salim, Imam Sheikh alias Sonu, Dilshadi and Ahidi.
