Sonipat: Actor Deep Sidhu, who was named one of the accused in the 2021 Red Fort violence, died in a road accident near Sonipat on Tuesday evening. He was travelling with a friend Reena Rai in a white scorpio. She has sustained minor injuries and out of danger.
The car rammed into a stationary trailer truck in the middle of the road. Sidhu was travelling from Delhi to Bathinda in Punjab. The accident took place near Sonipat on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Highway at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday.
He was rushed to Kharkhoda hospital in Haryana's Sonipat district where he was declared brought dead. His body has been kept for post-mortem examination at Sonipat Government hospital.
Belonging to Muktsar's Udekaran village in Punjab, Sidhu's family had left the village in the 80s. His father was an advocate who practised at Gidderbaha.
The actor-turned-farmer activist was in the news last year for his involvement in the Republic Day tractor rally in the national capital on January 26 which had turned violent, leaving many injured.
Deep Sidhu was arrested from Karnal in Haryana on February 9 last year by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence at the Red Fort during the Republic Day tractor rally by farmers protesting against the three farm laws. He was out on bail recently.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi offered his condolences to Deep Sidhu's family. He said: "Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, #DeepSidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans".
