Fashion designer and "Project Runway" star Christian Siriano is offering to make free face masks for the coronavirus outbreak after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned there may not be enough for medical workers.
Siriano's representatives told BuzzFeed News first revealed the deal was underway — and on Friday, it went public on Twitter.
“If @NYGovCuomo says we need masks my team will make some,” the designer vowed. "I have a full sewing team still on staff working from home that can help."
Cuomo welcomed the help, tweeting “we’re in contact with @CSiriano. Appreciate his help so much. Who’s next/ Let’s do this together, NY!”
Siriano’s publicist told Vulture “they’re starting to make them now, which we will donate and then a plan will be put together as we flesh it out to manufacture more.”
In a follow-up tweet Saturday, Siriano urged anyone with thoughts of joining in the effort to “be smart.”
“We are making waves and working on getting approvals before we start anything,” he wrote. “It’s very important before anyone does anything to help, please make sure what you are making is safe and hopefully FDA approved. We must be smart.”
