Mumbai: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh who was absconding for the last 231 days has landed in Mumbai today to appear before the office of Crime Branch Unit 11 in Kandivali to join the investigation in Goregaon alleged extortion case.
Earlier, Supreme Court had stayed his arrest in the extortion case and asked him to appear before the investigating agenices. Mumbai Crime Branch had declared him absconding in the case after searching him in Mumbai and Chandigarh.
After the SC granted him protection from arrest, yesterday he said he was in Chandigarh and would visit Mumbai soon.
In an interview to India Today, Param Bir Singh said,"I am here in Mumbai as per the instructions of the Supreme Court to cooperate in the investigation."
On being asked about the cases registered against him, he said,"I have already put my statement before the SC in this matter.
Param Bir Singh has been facing four cases of extortion in Maharashtra and had been missing since October, leading to rumours he had fled the country.
