Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The test results came four days after he had attended a Miami event with a Brazilian government official, who later tested positive.
“It is confirmed that I have the coronavirus,” Suarez told the Miami Herald. “I did test positive for it.”
Suarez said he is now “concerned for people who have had some measure of contact with me.”
The mayor had placed himself in quarantine after having been alerted that he may have been in contact with Fábio Wajngarten, a member of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s delegation, who had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Just days before the meeting with Suarez, Wajngarten had traveled to Florida to meet President Donald Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., who is also in self-quarantine, was at the Miami meeting with Wajngarten.
