Miami officials have canceled the city’s Calle Ocho Music Festival due to concerns over the potential spread of the coronavirus.
The festival, scheduled for March 15, normally attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the city’s Little Havana area, the Miami Herald reported.
“The safety and health of our residents is always our first priority,” City Commissioner Manolo Reyes tweeted. “For this reason, the @CityofMiami and the organizers of Calle Ocho Festival have agreed to cancel this year’s event.”
Joe Fernandez of the Kiwanis of Little Havana, the sponsor of the event, said it likely will not be rescheduled for later this year because of major logistical challenges.
