Ludhiana: An explosion has been reported on the second floor of the Ludhiana District court building. Two persons are reportedly dead in the blast. Four injured have been rushed to the hospital.
The blast is reported to have taken place in a bathroom on the second storey around 12:22 pm. Police have cordoned off the area and fire tenders are on the spot.
Sources said that it seems to be a "powerful blast" as walls of the washroom have been damaged and window panes smashed. Walls of bathroom were demolished, while glass of windows were also shattered in bomb blast.
There was a lawyers' strike on Thursday and, therefore, only a few people were in the court complex at the time of the blast.
The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained.
Few days back, former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh had warned against any terror activity in the frontier state before the state assembly elections. Intelligence agencies had alerted last week of a possible attack by Pakistan sponsored men.
I have shortened my meetings and moving to Ludhiana immediately. Several anti-national activities are on the rise in the state just before the elections. First attempts to desecrate holy book and now blast, attempts are being made to create tension in the state.," said Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi.
