Bernie Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner, told Newsmax TV on Friday that California Gov. Gavin Newsom deserves “a lot of credit” for his comments about President Donald Trump and his response to the coronavirus outbreak.
“I give the governor of California a lot of credit for standing up the other day and saying: ‘Look, I spoke to the president. The president gave me, offered me everything that the government can do and I'm very pleased with our conversation,’” Kerik told “American Agenda” Friday afternoon, after saying that other governors and some mayors have “hindered” and “hampered” Trump with their rhetoric.
Newsom told reporters earlier this week that he spoke to Trump about the American passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship who were quarantined due to several passengers testing positive for the coronavirus. The governor said that Trump “said everything I could have hoped for,” and that his administration followed up on “every single thing” the president said, according to Newsweek.
“You know what, that’s a unitized government,” Kerik added. “That's what's supposed to be happening, but you got mayors and governors all over this country that’s using this as a political tool to attack Donald Trump. This isn't about Donald Trump; this is about the benefit for our country. We have to have unity; we have to come together. The president's doing everything in his power to do that, but you have morons out there that are in key executive positions in government that's spewing this insane rhetoric that scaring the hell out of the nation and it's wrong.”
