Recoveries Outnumber New Cases in India after 61 Days

New Delhi: For the first time in 61 days, recoveries outnumbered new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, providing some relief to the country which is reeling under the raging second wave of the pandemic for some time now.

In the last 24 hours, India reported 3,29,942 fresh cases, while as many as 3,56,082 people recovered from the disease during the same time period.

India's cumulative recoveries stood at 1,90,27,304 on Tuesday, with a national recovery rate is 82.75 per cent.

Ten states account for 72.28 per cent of the new recoveries, with Maharashtra leading the chart with 61,607 recoveries, followed by 32,188 in Karnataka, 31,209 in Kerala, 29,709 in Uttar Pradesh, 20,904 in Tamil Nadu, 18,675 in West Bengal, 16,192 in Haryana, 16,167 in Andhra Pradesh, 15,800 in Bihar, and 14,931 in Gujarat.

Ten states also reported 69.88 per cent of the new cases in the last 24 hours. Karnataka reported the highest daily of new cases at 39,305, followed by Maharashtra (37,236), Tamil Nadu (28,978), Kerala (27,487), Uttar Pradesh (21,277), West Bengal (19,445), Rajasthan (16,487), Andhra Pradesh (14,986), Haryana (12,718), and Delhi (12,651).

Meanwhile, for the first time in 61 days, there was a net decline of 30,016 cases in the total active caseload in the last 24 hours.

India's total active caseload has dipped to 37,15,221, comprising 16.16 per cent of the country's total positive cases.

As per the latest Union Health Ministry data, 13 states cumulatively account for 82.68 per cent of India's active cases.

Maharashtra leads the chart with 5,93,150 active cases, followed by Karnataka (5,71,026), Kerala (4,20,076), Uttar Pradesh (2,25,271), Rajasthan (2,03,017), Andhra Pradesh (1,89,367), Tamil Nadu (1,52,389), Gujarat (1,36,158), West Bengal (1,26,663), Chhattisgarh (1,25,104), Haryana (1,13,232), Madhya Pradesh (1,11,223), and Bihar (1,05,104).

India's overall Covid tally on Tuesday stood at 2,29,92,517, while 2,49,992 persons have succumbed to the virus so far.
