Delhi: In a short while ago, the Indian Air Force, in a tweet confirmed the unfortunate news of death of Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat. His wife Misses Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other personnel have died in the tragic accident.
"Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Nilgiri Hills) to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course today. With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident," tweets Indian Air Force.
"Deeply anguished by the sudden demise of Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other Armed Forces personnel in an extremely unfortunate helicopter accident today in Tamil Nadu. His untimely death is an irreparable loss to our Armed Forces and the country." tweets Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh.
Indian Air Force’s Group Captain Varun Singh is the sole survivor in the crash. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra on this year’s Independence Day for saving his LCA Tejas fighter aircraft during an aerial emergency in 2020.
