Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., suggests fellow progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., lost his Super Tuesday Michigan primary because of voter suppression.

In an interview on Fox News' "Special Report," Ocasio-Cortez was challenged on Sanders' apparent waning support.

"Well, I think one thing that isn't being talked about is the rampant voter suppression in this country," said Ocasio-Cortez, a surrogate for Sanders, noting a pre-primary rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan, drew 10,000 people.

"Right there in Ann Arbor, where we had that rally, those kids were waiting three hours in line to vote in Michigan," she told host Bret Baier.

"And so when we talk about who's turning out and who's not turning out, we absolutely need to be clear."

Pressed on if that meant voters were denied a chance to cast a ballot, AOC responded "Absolutely."

"You know, obviously, there's also more that we need to do in terms of turning out youth voters," she said. "We need to make sure that we're inspiring young people to turn out. But when you do turn out, you should not be waiting three, four, seven hours in order to vote."

She also weighed in on the coronavirus pandemic now affecting the United States.

"Democrats have agreed with President [Donald] Trump on his goals of paid sick leave and his goals of free coronavirus testing," Ocasio-Cortez said.

But she added: "I think the president's going to have to accept the fact that we're fighting for people who are going to be potentially unemployed. He's going to have to accept the fact that we're going to push on doctor and nurse protections."

According to Ocasio-Cortez, the focus should be on the "public health crisis" and "economic crisis the coronavirus brings."
