Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley stepped down from Boeing's board of directors in protest of government aid to help the aircraft maker get through the coronavirus crisis, CNBC reported.

The company said in a filing Thursday Haley opposes the company getting federal support "as a matter of philosophical principle," the news outlet reported.

Boeing and its airline customers have been hit hard from the pandemic as travel demand collapse and carriers race to park hundreds of airplanes and put off delivery of new ones, CNBC noted.

Boeing earlier this week said it is seeking $60 billion for itself and its massive supply chain because of the virus. The manufacturer's suppliers include United Technologies, General Electric, and Spirit Aerosystems.

Before the pandemic, Boeing was already reeling from the fallout of two fatal crashes of the 737 Max, its best-selling plane than a year, the CNBC noted.

Haley was officially installed on the board in May 2019, and served on the corporation's audit and finance committees.
