Birbhum: Violence hit Birbhum has been in news for all the wrong reasons in last several years. The district has once again shocked India due to the recent barbaric killings of 10 villagers in Bugtoi village of  Rampurhat after the murder of a TMC Panchayat leader Bhadu Sheikh. Angry supporters of Sheikh allegedly in revenge locked up 10 villagers inside a house and set it on fire. All 10 including women and 2 children were charred to death.

As per preliminary findings of the forensic experts, the victims were first badly beaten up and then burnt alive.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit the village today. Ahead of her visit, the local TMC unit is all decked to welcome her with banners and hoardings. A welcome gate has been built to welcome the CM.

"The local TMC unit in Birbhum Rampurhat is all decked up to welcome a remorseless Mamata Banerjee. She is supposedly visiting to take stock of the ghastly massacre, in which several women and children were burnt alive b those close to her regime. This is cruel, inhume." said Amit Malviya, incharge of BJP's National Information & Technology Department.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind urging him to invoke Article 355 in West Bengal to ensure that the government is run in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

At least 20 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, suspected to have been triggered by the killing of a local TMC leader on March 20 evening, and several police personnel and civic volunteers removed on grounds of negligence.
